Where is the Copa America 2019? Earlier it awas decided that Chile would host the Copa America in 2019 and Brazil would host it in 2015. However, following the 2013 Confederations Cup, the 2014 World Cup and the 202016 Olympics were all allotted to Brazil, CONMEBOL went for a swap which led to Brazil hosting the 2019 Copa America and CHile hosting it in 2015.  Follow the Copa America live =>

This is the 5th time Brazil are hosting the Copa America. They hosted the Copa America four times before and on all occasions, won the competition. This year, 6 stadiums across 5 cities will host the competition.

Where is the Copa America? Brazi are hosting the competition this time, the 5th time they are doing so. Brazil have always won the tournament whenever they have hosted the Copa America and this year too they are heavy favorites. The Brazilians started well with a 3-0 win over Bolivia which was followed by a 0-0 draw against Venezuela.

Brazil last won the Copa America in 2007. Since then, Brazil have always exited the Copa AMerica in the quarter-finals and before. In 2011 and 2015, Paraguay beat Brazil in the quarter-finals on penalties while in 2016, Brazil failed to qualify from their group. In 2016, Brazil started the tournament with a goalless draw against Ecuador. They followed this with a 7-1 rout of Haiti. However, Brazil lost their final group game against Peru which saw them exit in the first hurdle.

However, this time, Brazil have the team capable of winning the Copa America.

What is the venue for Copa America? This year, the Copa America will take place in Brazil. Earlier, Chile was to host the competition but due to Brazil hosting three footballing competitions from 2013-2016, Brazil was given the hosting responsibility of the 2019 Copa America while Chile became the host of the 2015 Copa America.

The Copa America 2019 will, as I said, take place at Brazil. This will be the 5th time that Brazil will host the tournament. Brazil hosted the competition in 1919, 1922, 1949 and 1989, winning it on all occasions. 6 stadiums will host the tournament and now, we will discuss all those stadiums

Estadio Maracana

Host to some of the most iconic matches in football history, the Estadio Maracana at Rio is the most popular football stadium in Brazil. Before undergoing renovation, this stadium witnessed a crowd of over 100,000 on 284 occasions. This included the 1950 World Cup title decider between Brazil and Uruguay in 1950 when almost 200000 people witnessed the match. 

The Maracana will host 5 matches during the tournament- three group games, a quarter-final and the Final on 7th July. Two matches at this stadium are already over and both matches saw four goals being scored. These are the 2-2 draw between Paraguay and debutants Qatar and Peru’s 3-1 win over Bolivia.

Estadio do Morumbi

This stadium is the home ground of Brazilian club Sao Paulo. It did not host any matches during the 2014 World Cup but has hosted concerts featuring some of the biggest bands and singers of all-time. These include Queen, Nirvana, U2. Foo Fighters, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Sir Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan.

This stadium has already hosted all of its matches. It hosted the opening match between Brazil and Bolivia which Brazil won 3-0. The other matches this stadium hosted are Chile’s 4-0 rout of Japan and Colombia’s 1-0 win over Qatar which saw Colombia booking their place in the quarter-finals.

Arena Corinthians

This is the second stadium in Sao Paulo which will host matches during the 2019 Copa America. It is the home of Brazilian club Corinthians and hosted 6 matches during the 2014 World Cup including the tournament opener where Brazil beat Croatia 3-1. Other matches this stadium hosted include Argentina’s last 16 and semi-final matches against Switzerland and Netherlands respectively. It also hosted several football matches during the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Arena Corinthians will host three matches during the Copa America this year. These include Brazil’s final group game against Peru, a semi-final and the third-place playoff.

Estadio Mineirao

This stadium witnessed one of the most forgettable matches in Brazilian football history as Brazil received a drubbing at hands f Germany in the FIFA World Cup semi-finals. This stadium will host one of the semi-finals and provided Brazil qualify for the semis while ending in the top two of their group, they will play their semi-final here.

All-in-all , this stadium is hosting 5 matches during the tournament.

Arena de Gremio

This stadium is the home ground of Gremio and has hosted many concerts featuring many popular artists. This stadium will host 5 matches during the tournament including a quarter-final and a semi-finak.

Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova

This stadium hosted 6 matches during the 2014 FIFA World Cup including Netherlands’ 5-1 drubbing of Spain. It’ll also host 5 matches during the competition including a quarter-final.
