Youngest player to win Ballon D’or

We look at which young stars could win the Ballon d’Or! In recent seasons it’s been dominated by FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo but in the near-future, someone else is going to have to win the prestigious award.

The Ballon d’Or is the greatest individual award that can be won and every football would love to be in with a chance of winning it, but here are sillyseason’s 10 picks who have a real chance of taking home the gong.

10. Paul Pogba – Juventus

The 21-year-old Juventus star is undoubtedly considered as one of the best young talents in the world and has attracted major interest from across Europe after yet another stunning campaign.

After leaving Manchester United due to the lack of first-team opportunities and falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson, Pogba has established himself well and has now reportedly got a release clause of about £75million.

With the great displays he has put in on the field this year and the seasons before, Pogba is said to have a real chance of becoming a future Ballon d’Or winner.

9. Raheem Sterling – Liverpool

 

The 20-year-old England international has burst onto the scene at Liverpool since Brendan Rodgers took over at Anfield. His lethal pace and eye for goal as made him one of the deadliest players in the Premier League.

Last season he was a crucial part of the trio that involved Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, and this season has seen him continue without the strike duo as he is currently the club’s top goalscorer.

His consistent performances have seen him be linked with a mega-money move to Spanish giants Real Madrid and he is someone we consider as a future Ballon d’Or winner.

After scoring 7 goals in the FIFA World Cup, James Rodriguez proved that he is one of the best young talents in the world.

The golden boot winner from the Summer tournament attracted interest from the likes of Real Madrid and eventually they splashed out big money in order to sign him from AS Monaco after the World Cup ended.

Rodriguez has fitted into the Real Madrid squad well in his debut season, and with the guidance of Cristiano Ronaldo, he could easily go on and win the prestigious award one day.

7. Mario Gotze – Bayern Munich

 

In 7th comes the World Cup winner, Mario Gotze.

The 22-year-old is known for his pace, dribbling skills and goal-scoring ability from the midfield. Gotze made his name with Borussia Dortmund where he was since his youth career in 2001, but made the controversial switch to fierce-rivals Bayern Munich in order to further his career.

The World Cup winner has plenty of time to add to his already impressive career and a Ballon d’Or is a realistic aim for the midfield-man.

6. Marco Reus – Borussia Dortmund

Undoubtedly one of the finest attackers in the game. Marco Reus is referred to as a complete forward with his bags of skill, pace and attacking threat, he is considered one of the best flair players in Europe.

Despite several injury concerns for the German star, which sadly kept him out of the World Cup in Brazil, Reus is one of the stars left remaining at Dortmund, but it’s unclear for how long.

The play-maker recently signed a new contract at the club which cancelled his £20million release clause, but with Jurgen Klopp leaving this Summer, there is a strong chance that Reus could follow suit.

Wherever he ends up, it’s almost certain than Reus will become one of the world’s greatest.

Thomas Muller is currently the 3rd highest goal scorer in the World Cup history after yet another successful competition in Brazil.

Muller is considered as one of the finest midfielders in the world and can also apply his trade up front as a striker if need be. His versatility is vital for Munich and still yet to reach his peak, Muller could go down as one of the greatest, especially in the World Cup.

4. Diego Costa – Chelsea FC

After his move from Atletico MadridDiego Costa announced his arrival into the Premier League and has adapted to English football effortlessly.

The Spaniard has been lethal for The Blues and has helped fire them to the top of the Premier League table, almost guaranteeing himself a winners medal in his debut season.

With still plenty of years left ahead of him and under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, there is no doubt that Costa could reach the top and claim a Ballon d’Or.

3. Eden Hazard – Chelsea FC

Another Chelsea FC player makes the list this time its the Belgium winger Eden Hazard.

The 24-year-old has been shortlisted for the award on several occasions and is undoubtedly one of the players that will win the award in the future.

The Chelsea winger was recently crowned PFA Player of the Year and also made the PFA Team of the Year after yet another stunning season for Mourinho’s side. His consistency and ever-presence in Chelsea’s team makes it almost certain that one day he will become a Ballon d’Or winner.

2. Gareth Bale – Real Madrid

In second comes the world’s most expensive footballer Gareth Bale, who moved from Tottenham Hotspur for £85million to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The multi talented 25-year-old is one of the best players and is competing alongside the likes of Ronaldo and Messi but is yet to reach their incredible standards.

However, Bale is considered as a complete attacker with his pace, ball control, heading ability, free kick ability and knack of scoring goals for his new club.

Still only 25, Bale is almost certain to be a future Ballon d’Or winner.

Finally a Barcelona player makes the list.

The 22-year-old Brazilian captain is arguably the best young talent in the world and has managed to live up to his big money move away from Santos to join FC Barcelona.

Considering Neymar’s current form he looks like one of the future Ballon D’or winners and at only 22-years-old, there is plenty of time for the Brazilian to achieve his dream.
