FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED- CHELSEA V KIEV!

Willian was the hero for Chelsea as the Blues secured a much-needed victory against a stubborn Dynamo Kiev.

An own-goal from Aleksandar Dragovic gave Chelsea the lead at Stamford Bridge before the Kiev defender made amends late on.

However, Chelsea snatched all three points when Willian curled home an unstoppable free-kick in the closing stages to relieve some pressure on boss Jose Mourinho and give Chelsea a much needed advantage in Group G.

Here are five things we learned.

Chelsea fans love Jose Mourinho!

The Special One’s name rang out repeatedly during the first half, before and after the Blues took the lead.

The Matthew Harding stand let the the chorus, and the whole of the Bridge stood up in applause of the Portugeese.

A visibly moved Mourinho acknowledged the support with a shy wave.

It was a clear message from the Chelsea faithful to Roman Abramovich that they still believe they have the best man for the job in place.

While Jose Mourinho is under the cosh from the media and the FA, it is clear that the charismatic, self proclaimed happy one, can do no wrong by Blue fans.

Chelsea showed character!

For the first time this season, their was the grit and determination of old on display tonight as the blues responded to a later Kiev equaliser in stunning fashion.

Chelsea skipper John Terry assured fans beforehand that the unity remained, branding claims to the contrary as “ridiculous” and both he and his team-mates were as good as their word.

They were organised, industrious, attacked on either side through Willian and Oscar and – when Kiev staged their second-half rally – held firm.

Zouma’s recovery tackle on forward Artem Cravats as he bore down on goal four minutes after the break was world class and Matic in midfield was more like the Matic we know and love.

While the performance was far from vintage, Chelsea can be happy with their nights work and Blue fans will not only be relieved, but full of hope for the fixtures ahead.

Costa still not at it!

The Spanish striker should have had a penalty (even though he made a meal of it). But he still looks a yard short of pace and fitness.

There were a number of occasions on which he should have made more of the opportunities he had.

Chelsea’s attacking play was lacking the killer instinct and Costa found himself oppressing more as a winger then a centre forward.

Despite setting up a sitter for Willian on 51 minutes, Costa still looked a shadow of his former self.

Mourinho doesn’t trust Hazard!

The belgian was once again axed from the starting line-up as Jose Mourinho looked to inject new life into a Chelsea team that has stalled.

Such was the magnitude of this game, it was a huge surprised to see Hazard amongst the substitutes on a night where the win was a must.

Last season’s player of the year looked a dejected figure on the bench as his team showed more attacking intent without his presence.

Despite making an impressive cameo in the final 10 minutes of the match- It is clear that things are not well with Hazard.

Both Hazard and Mourinho need to repair the trust as the winger is essential to Chelsea’s hopes of getting back on track!

Baba Rahman can be trusted!

Chelsea new boy Baba Rahman has been a porifiral figure at Stamford Bridge since making his move from Germany during the summer.

The German has found first team opportunities hard to come by with Jose Mourinho preferring the tried and tested.

Having said that, Rahman certainly staked a claim for the left-back spot after offensive and defensive impressive display.

While his talent is still a little rough around the edges, he could be the left-back the Blues have been searching for since releasing Ashley Cole.
