AC Milan have done the obvious – sacked their head coach, Marco Giampaolo after a run of only 7 games this season.

The Rossoneri got off to a horrible start this campaign, losing 4 of their 7 Serie A games and dropping to the 13th spot in the league. Giampaolo arrived with great pomp this summer but his Milan career was short-lived.

He impressed with Empoli and Sampdoria to earn a San Siro job. Giampaolo was also aided by a summer of strong recruitment, 7 new faces entering through the club’s doors but unfortunately, expectations were far too high for the Italian to succeed.

The last time Milan recorded a trophy was 8 years back in 2010/11 season – when they won the Scudetto. It has been a steep drop from stardom with Champions League football lacking for majority of the decade.

The fans cannot wait to see their side return to title-winning ways especially, after watching their rivals, Inter make such an immediate rise in Italian football under Antonio Conte.

Giampaolo’s sacking comes after a 2-1 victory over Genoa. The man tipped to replace him is Stefano Pioli. The announcement can be expected to be made this week.
