Peppino Tirri, an Italian agent FC Porto have used to broker deals on the Peninsula in the past, claims Liverpool are keen on bringing Colombian striker Jackson Martinez to the Premier League in January.

Tirri is not Martinez’ agent, rather an agent Porto have used in the past.

“Liverpool are in for Jackson. AC Milan? That’s unlikely. Porto won’t yield an inch from their €35m (£27.5m) release clause,” Tirri told Calcio News.

Liverpool have been weakened up front since the summer sale of Luis Suarez, injury problems for Daniel Sturridge, and the failure to settle of Mario Balotelli. Arsenal and Tottenham are also keen on the forward.

Martínez’ real agent, Henrique Pompeu, tweeted: “Jackson is happy at Porto. He wants to win the Liga and go far in Europe. He won’t leave in January.”

Martinez, 30, has 29 caps and 10 goals for the Colombian national side. He joined Porto in 2012 from Mexican side Chiapas.
