Arsene Wenger confirms Chilean will have extended break

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed Alexis Sanchez will miss the Community Shield match against Chelsea and the season opener against West Ham United.

The winger had a hectic 2014/2015 campaign, playing over 70 games in the calendar year, and after starring in Chile’s Cope America victory, he stopped playing competitive football earlier this month.

Wenger has given Alexis a month rest period, meaning he will return to Arsenal early August, which will see him miss the Community Shield, which is on the 2nd August, and will also miss the Premier League opener against West Ham at the Emirates Stadium, which is on the 8th.

Wenger Confirms Absence

The Gunners boss: “He will be back on August 3 and it usually takes three weeks to be competitive.

“He will miss certainly the first game of the season but with Alexis, it takes a little bit less.”
