Chelsea have been dealt a massive transfer blow with the news that Antoine Griezmann wants to remain in Spain with Atletico Madrid.
The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a mega-money move to Stamford Bridge in recent months, with Chelsea desperate to add attacking talent to their squad, but he’s put a nail in the coffin by confirming he’s planning on staying in Spain.
Griezmann was believed to be worth around £60million up until earlier this season when officials at Atletico decided to up his buy-out clause to £75m.
His contract expires with the La Liga giants in 2020, but he’s reiterated his desires to stay put at Atletico, all-but ending Chelsea’s hopes of signing him.
“I am feeling very well at Atletico,” Griezmann told French publication Telefoot.
“This is a big club and I want to achieve great things here. I am ambitious and my goal is to win trophies here.
“I have become more mature. The club and my team-mates rely on me.
“I have become a more complete player and have to continue on the same path. I am not at my best just yet.
“I work every day to improve and reach my top. I am still far away from the best players.”
Chelsea officials had identified Griezmann as a potential replacement for Eden Hazard should the Belgian leave over the summer.
