Chelsea have ended any speculation of Charly Musonda leaving this summer by handing the young star a number in Antonio Conte’s squad.
The 20-year-old Belgian will now wear Eden Hazard’s old No 17 shirt next term, indicating that he still has a future at Stamford Bridge despite rumours linking him with Celtic.
Musonda spent a year on loan at Real Betis, playing under former Brighton and Sunderland boss Gus Poyet for a spell.
He is not short of confidence, previously tipping himself to become a legend in his career.
‘I was a late starter in my career,’ he said. ‘For example Eden Hazard was already in the first team when he was 16 and I was nowhere near that.
‘But look, every phenomenon is different. So I’m going to create my own legend. I only really properly started at 19 and I’m sure I will have a very great career.
‘I feel I have learned a lot at Chelsea and I am ready for any league in the world. I have never regretted signing for Chelsea.
‘People ask me whether I should have done more in my career because I am not a teenager now. But with my style, the way I’ve grown and the level at which I wanted to break through, I knew that I would develop later than most.’
