Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a loan-deal with Shakhtar Donetsk for striker Douglas Costa.

Costa would be The Gunners’ fifth signing this Summer, following the likes of; Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, David Ospina and Calum Chambers to the Emirates Stadium, and despite already spending over £50million, Arsene Wenger is keen to add a couple more faces.

It’s believed Wenger mainly wants a defensive midfielder and a back-up centre-back, just incase Thomas Vermaelen leaves, but a chance to take Costa on loan for the season may appeal to the Frenchman as well.

The 23-year-old Brazilian has told the Ukrainian club that he doesn’t want to return due to the political issues taking place in the country, and he has refused to return to the country after playing a friendly in France.

It’s believed Arsenal would pay a large loan-fee for the season, and then discuss a permanent move with Shakhtar next Summer.
