It has been revealed that Arsenal officials did hold secret talks with Karim Benzema’s agent throughout the summer.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with signing the Real Madrid star, only to be turned down on Monday when the Frenchman posted on his official Twitter account that he’d be staying in Spain.
Benzema confirmed that people were ‘clowns’ for thinking he’d leave Madrid, a place he now calls home.
Despite the striker never being interested in a move to Arsenal, the Premier League side did hold secret talks with his agent at some point during the summer, but they were told then that Benzema has no desire to move clubs.
His agent even confirmed that there is no chance a move would happen because the striker is ‘1000%’ staying at the Bernabeu.
However, it has been revealed in France that officials from the Emirates Stadium held one meeting with Benzema’s agent and discussed a potential move.
Journalist Pierre Menes informed French TV station Canal + about one meeting the English outfit had with the 27-year-old’s representative Karim Djaziri.
