Arsene Wenger’s injury nightmare at Arsenal Football Club has took another hit this evening after it was announced that vice-captain Mikel Arteta will be out of action for up to six weeks after tearing his quadricep.

In his pre-match press conference, Wenger revealed that the club are awaiting news from a scan on Arteta’s injury and at first thought, they believe it was just a knock, but the scan has revealed that there is a tear in the midfielder’s quad.

The vice-captain now joins; Thomas Vermaelen, Abou Diaby, Nacho Monreal, Santi Cazorla, Bacary Sagna and Theo Walcott all sidelined with injuries, with the first three being long-term injuries.

The injury picked up by Arteta means he will miss both legs of the Champions League qualifiers against Turkish side Fenerbache and it also means he will miss the first few Premier League games of the season, including the North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
