Gunners join Hammers in battle for striker

Arsenal are preparing a move for Juventus striker and West Ham target Mario Mandzukic.

Mandzukic could be available after Juve signed Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli for £75million this week.

Mandzukic, however, remains one of the top centre-forwards in Europe and could be a useful buy for the Gunners’ current needs.

Arsenal are heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud as their main striker at the moment, with Danny Welbeck suffering another lengthy injury ahead of the new season.

With doubts over the Frenchman’s ability to lead the line for Arsene Wenger’s side, Gazzetta dello Sport name Mandzukic as the club’s latest target up front.

It has been another frustrating summer in the transfer market for the north Londoners, who themselves were linked with Higuain prior to his move to Juve, while Lyon also announced they had rejected their offer for Alexandre Lacazette.
