Arsenal have opened formal talks with FC Porto for Colombian striker Jackson Martinez.

According to reports in Portugal, the two clubs are formally opening talks discussing a potential deal, which could be worth around £20million, which Arsene Wenger is willing to pay, as his quest for a new striker continues.

It’s believed that Martinez is keen to move to England, in particular Arsenal, and he has told his agent to force through a move as quick as possible, as he’s ready to test himself against the very best in world football.

As for Wenger, he has been closely following the Colombian over the last 12-months, and he is now ready to take the formal talks further by offering the Portuguese club £20m for the 29-year-old.

The Gunners were heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud last season, and Wenger is keen for that not to be the case this time around, so a striker is at the top of his wishlist, with AC Milan’s Mario Balotelli also linked with the Emirates switch.

Wenger is now waiting to hear if he can sign the striker for cheaper than his actual price-tag, which is roughly £35m.
