Former-Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann believes the club over-paid when they signed German international Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid, however he also believes he is better value for money than Gareth Bale, who the Spaniards spent £86million on.

The Gunners splashed £43million on bringing Ozil to the Emirates Stadium, which made him the club’s highest ever transfer fee and despite impressing during his short-time at the club, Lehmann still believes he is not worth that much.

Not only does Lehmann believe Ozil was over-priced, he also believes Madrid paid too much for Bale this summer.

‘In all honesty, Arsenal paid too much for Mesut Ozil,’ Lehmann told German website Spox.

‘But that’s because Gareth Bale went to Real Madrid for so much more money. Nobody is worth that much.

‘The Ozil deal was much better. I don’t see a £42.5 million difference between the two players.

‘That’s how that market works when a club like Real Madrid loses the plot.’
