Ashley Cole has declared that he would like Chelsea to sign Luke Shaw from Southampton, even though that would add to his challenge in trying to win back a regular place in the first team.
Cole started the Boxing Day match against Swansea City but has frequently been behind César Azpilicueta this season. The 18-year-old Shaw is said to be a target for Chelsea.
Cole was asked on Twitter how he felt about the club wanting to buy Shaw and replied: “hope to see him there to be honest”.
Southampton’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has said his club will turn down any offers for Shaw in January.
“It is a very clear situation,” he said this week. “The player wants to stay, the club is not willing to sell.”
