Real Madrid holding midfielder Asier Illaramendi is set to snub Liverpool for a return to his former club Real Sociedad.
The Reds have been heavily linked with the Spanish international, after rumours suggested they were close to agreeing a deal worth around £15 million.
However, reports from the Spanish media outlet Marca claim that Illaramendi would prefer to stay in Spain rather than move to the Premier League.
A return to his boyhood club seems to be the more appealing option for the 25-year old.
Illaramendi began his career at Real Sociedad before moving to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2013 for £23 million.
Despite making 59 appearances in La Liga for Madrid, it looks as if he will be out of favour during the new campaign under Rafa Benitez’s leadership.
This means that a homecoming to the club that gave him his opportunity in professional football could be more likely than ever; especially when La Real boss David Moyes can match the £15 million bid possibly made by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.
