Who could replace Tim Sherwood?

Aston Villa parted company with Tim Sherwood on Sunday, following a woeful run of results, culminating in a 2-1 defeat at home to Swansea City at Villa Park.

Sherwood lasted just under a year at the helm of the second city club, who currently are 19th in the Premier League standings, after six straight defeats.

So, who could be in line for the vacant managerial post at Aston Villa? Here at SillySeason, we’ll take a look at five potential appointments.

Brendan Rodgers

Recently sacked Brendan Rodgers will be keen to return to the world of management, having been relieved of his duties at Liverpool earlier in October.

Having took over the Liverpool post in the summer of 2012, the Northern Irishman almost landed the Anfield outfit a first Premier League crown in 2013/14 – eventually finishing runners up to Manchester City.

However, Rodgers struggled to recapture the form of two-years ago in recent seasons, and left Liverpool in tenth, following a 1-1 draw with Merseyside rivals, Everton.

Despite somewhat struggling at the Reds, he could be an ideal replacement to help Villa out of the mess they are in, having tasted success at Swansea City.

David Moyes

David Moyes is another experienced individual who is likely to throw his hat in the ring – with a return to England seemingly ever increasing as the weeks go by.

The 52-year-old Scot is currently out in Spain with La Liga side, Real Sociedad, a post he has held since November 2014, but has come under increasing pressure in San Sebastian, with his side struggling near the foot of the Liga table in the top-flight.

Bookmakers Sky Bet have priced Moyes as the favourite to land the Villa role, and return to the Premier League, where he spent a decade, in charge at Everton, before a short-lived stint at Manchester United.

Remi Garde

Frenchman Remi Garde kicks-off the list of foreign managers that Villa may look towards to take over the hot seat in Birmingham.

The 49-year-old, who has been out of work since leaving Lyon in 2014 after three-years at the helm, has experience in the English top-flight with Arsenal, making 31 appearances for the North London side in a three-year spell between 1996-1999.

An outside choice perhaps, but Villa have made their intentions clear to get Garde, who is top of their wishlist, having previously been linked with Newcastle United.

Bob Bradley

Former US National team manager Bob Bradley is also a viable candidate for the role at Villa.

Bradley is most famed for his five-year spell with the American side between 2006-2011, where he helped his home nation qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

After leaving his post four-years ago, the 57-year-old has managed Egypt, and now Norway-based Stabaek, but could a job in England be next on Bradley’s agenda.

His son, Michael, now with FC Toronto, spent a brief spell with Villa in 2011 – making three appearances.

Dwight Yorke

Dwight Yorke’s inclusion in the list may raise a few eyebrows, but the former Villa favourite is keen to try his hand at management.

Yorke, who spent nine years at Villa in the early 1990’s, making 232 appearances for the club, stated of his interest in the role to Bein Sports host, Richard Keys.
