QPR director of football Les Ferdinand has confirmed Newcastle’s interest in Charlie Austin

Ferdinand has insisted the Tyneside club are yet to have made a formal bid for Austin.

The 26-year-old, who scored 18 Premier League goals last season, is reportedly a target for Chelsea, Leicester, Tottenham as well as Newcastle.

Speculation started to mount over his future following QPR’s relegation to the Championship last season with the Magpies reportedly favourites to land the former Burnley striker.

However, Ferdinand has admitted whilst Newcastle have registered an interest in Austin they have yet to approach QPR with a formal offer.

“Newcastle might have enquired by speaking to the chairman, but no bid has come in from Newcastle for Charlie.”

Austin’s comments

The QPR forward, who was the subject of a £12million bid by Leicester City, has recently spoke out for the first time about his future.

“What’s going on at home is for other people to worry about. That’s for Les (Ferdinand), Chris (Ramsey), my agent and Tony (Fernandes) to sort out.

“Until I’m told otherwise, I’m a QPR player and I’m preparing for the Championship next year, and if I’m told otherwise, then so be it” said Austin.

Chelsea interest

The Blues manager Jose Mourinho is believed to be keen on Austin reportedly admitting he was impressed with his performances when he has played against Chelsea.

After veteran striker Didier Drogba left the club, there was speculation who Mourinho would bring into provide competition for Diego Costa.

However, following the signing of Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan from Monaco, The Portugese coach might have cooled his interest in Austin.
