Barcelona legend Carles Puyol has slammed Real Madrid’s mentality, stating that they are only focused on winning the Champions League. Real Madrid have won the Champions League 13 times that include winning the last three times. However, the same cannot be said of their La Liga results. Last season, they came third, 17 points behind winners Barcelona.
Puyol said that unlike Real Madrid, Barcelona set their mind on winning everything. He said, “Barcelona have always fought for everything. If Barcelona had a season like Real Madrid last year, they would kill us. They focused on the Champions League, they played heads or tails but at Barcelona you cannot do that, we have another mentality.”
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona suffered their first La Liga defeats of the season. Barcelona suffered a shock defeat to Leganes while Sevilla thrashed Real Madrid 3-0. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have 13 points but Barcelona occupy top spot because of a superior goal-difference.
Real Madrid’s next fixture is a Madrid Derby against Atletico Madrid on Saturday. Barcelona’s next fixture is against Athletic Bilbao, also on Saturday.
