Bayer Leverkusen are now leading the race to sign Hamburg star Hakan Calhanoglu, according to the agent of the 20-year old who is also wanted by Chelsea and Liverpool. The Turkey international has been one of the breakout stars of the 2013/14 Bundesliga season.

Calhanoglu did sign a contract extension at the German side, which contracts him to the club until 2018, but reports are suggesting he wants out following Hamburg’s struggles this season. Now, a number of top sides are considering a £10m move, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Despite this, the midfielder’s agent, Bektas Demirtas, believes a move to Bayer Leverkusen seems much more likely. He said:

“If he should move within Germany, then Leverkusen have the greatest chance of signing him. They are a club, playing European football, who want him and who are willing to pay an appropriate price. The dream of a player is to always play at a level as high as possible and maybe to hear the music of the Champions League.

“Hamburg have the decision-making authority. If he has to stay, we have to accept that.”
