The deal between Liverpool and QPR for striker Fabio Borini is apparently off with the striker wanting to fight for his place at Anfield.

Borini has been linked with moves away from Liverpool all summer, first with Sunderland, who tabled a £14million bid for the Italian, and now with QPR, with a deal today looking almost finished.

But the deal has failed to finalise with problems to do with Borini’s lack of motivation to leave and his wage demands.

Borini was expected to jump at the chance to leave Anfield, as he’s way down Brendan Rodgers’ pecking order. The likes of Daniel Sturridge, Mario Balotelli and new signing Rickie Lambert are all favoured ahead of the 24-year-old.

Despite the fact his playing time will likely be very limited, it appears now that Borini will stay at Liverpool and compete for as many appearances as possible.

The forward can be used on the right-wing as well as up top, due to his excellent work-rate. What Borini lacks in raw pace and technical ability, he makes up for in sheer determination and industry.

Last term, Borini spent the campaign on loan at Sunderland, scoring a goal in the League Cup final, as well as important strikes against Newcastle and Chelsea.
