Permanent replacement for Sepp Blatter confirmed

Gianni Infantino has been named Sepp Blatter’s successor as FIFA president after gaining an outright majority in the second round of voting.

207 national associations voted at the FIFA congress in Zurich, Switzerland and the winner needed 104 votes.

However, Infantino received 115 votes, defeating favourite Sheikh Salman, the Asian Football Confederation president, by 27 votes.

The Swiss native fills the void left after Blatter’s resignation following allegations of corruption.
