Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is still in the market for a new striker, despite already adding Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino to his squad.
The Reds have been busy in the summer transfer window already, despite it not being officially open yet, signing five players for just over £30million.
Rodgers has brought in three free transfers in James Milner, Ings and Adam Bogdan, and has also signed Joe Gomez from Charlton Athletic for £3.5m and recently Firmino from Hoffenheim for £29m.
Liverpool announced the deal for the play-maker this morning, making him their fifth addition, but the plans aren’t to stop there as Rodgers eyes another striker before the new season.
Rodgers saw his side flop last season, especially in front of goal, with Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli all failing to impress, whilst Daniel Sturridge simply couldn’t stay fit.
The trio of flops are all expected to leave Anfield over the summer and Rodgers is ready to sign a new striker in order to improve on last season’s failures.
Liverpool currently have four strikers in mind.
Christian Benteke from Aston Villa, Carlos Bacca from Sevilla, Salomon Rondon from Zenit st Petersburg and Fernando Llorente from Juventus.
However, Rodgers and the Liverpool board are unwilling to meet Benteke’s release clause of £32m, meaning it could be between the latter trio.
It’s understood that Bacca would be the most expensive option at around £20m, whilst Liverpool could secure Rondon for as little as £15m.
Llorente would be the cheapest option due to his age, but his valued experience could be vital for Rodgers’ young Liverpool squad.
