The Italian netted 12 times in Serie A last season, which sparked lots of interest from a host of top European clubs but he opted to extend his stay at Lazio and was given captaincy.

This season after just eight league appearances, Candreva has scored twice and has featured twice for Italy.

He was linked with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool as the two sides look to strengthen their side but the Italian star has remained stern in explaining he will not be moving to either of these clubs, or indeed any other interested clubs.

Candreva spoke about the links with other clubs, saying: “I’ve always wanted to stay at Lazio. That’s what I said to my agents before all these rumours.

“It’s true that several teams came in for me but I always wanted to re-sign with Lazio.”
