Manchester United need to win at Wolfsburg, while Manchester City could claim top spot

The Champions League is back for the final game-week of the group stages before the knockout round, and SillySeason have put together a preview for you so you can understand what exactly is on the line in each group.

Group A

One of the quieter groups in terms of results needed. Real Madrid will qualify as group winners with a draw against bottom of the table Malmo FF.

Paris Saint-Germain can go top, if Madrid were to lose. The French Champions host Shakhtar Donetsk.

Group B

Group B promises to have an exciting ending with three teams fighting to qualify for the knockout stages.

Starting off with Manchester United. They need to win to control their fate in the competition.

The permutations are as follows: Manchester United will win the group with a win over Wolfsburg. A draw would see Louis van Gaal‘s men relying on CSKA Moscow to get a draw or victory at PSV Eindhoven.

If United were to lose, they would need a draw or defeat for PSV.

Team news for Manchester United doesn’t make for good reading as influential captain, Wayne Rooney is injured. Morgan Schneiderlin is also out injured. Other injuries include Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera.

PSV Eindhoven will be hoping Manchester United don’t win as they trail The Red Devils by one point.

Wolfsburg will also want to win tonight to avoid seeded draws second place teams face.

Group C

Group C hosts a top of the table clash tonight as Benfica host Atletico Madrid. Both teams occupy the top-two spots both on 10-points. Each team will be looking to avoid seeded draws in the knockout stages.

Galatasaray, who have had a poor campaign, host FC Astana in a mere formality of the competition.

Both teams are unable to qualify.

Group D

Manchester City will be looking to pull off the same heroics at the Etihad Stadium as they welcome Borussia Monchengladbach.

City are safely through to the next round and will be looking to finish strong in the group. Manuel Pellegrini will be without Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero and Jesus Navas.

Juventus host bottom of the group Sevilla, the Italians will hoping to finish first to avoid drawing a seeded team.
