Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote has urged Mike Ashley and Joe Kinnear to sign striker Loic Remy on a permanent basis, after his loan finishes from Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

The Frenchman rejected a move to St James Park last season in order to join QPR, but after they were relegated from England’s top-division, he was soon on the move again and eventually ended up at The Magpies for the season.

So far, Remy has been very impressive for Alan Pardew’s side, and Tiote is desperate for the club to sign him on a permanent basis.

‘Loic is very important for us. He’s a great player and he scored two fantastic goals (at Cardiff),’ the Ivorian told The Journal.

‘I hope he will continue to score because we need him and we need his goals – they are so important for us and at Cardiff they were the difference between winning and losing.

‘He’s going to be important for us this season and if he continues to score and play like he did we will be able to finish in the top ten.

‘I hope the chairman will buy him. You never know, but he’s already shown how important he is for us and it would be a big loss if he didn’t sign at the end of the season.’
