Blues would have to pay Atletico Madrid £15million to appoint him however

Chelsea are considering sacking Jose Mourinho and replacing him with Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone.

The Argentine manager won plenty of plaudits for his debut season in charge of Atletico, when he guided them to the La Liga title and also the Champions League final.

Times are tough however in England and in particular in London with Chelsea languishing down in 16th of the Premier League table after just two wins so far this season.

Mourinho Under Pressure

Despite winning the Premier League just a few months ago, pressure is on Mourinho and although the club have given him the vote of confidence, the mood is not right around the camp.

It was revealed last week that Roman Abramovich would have to fork out around £37.5million to sack Mourinho, meaning the Portuguese job may be safe for now due to costs, but if the Russian can find a suitable replacement, it may be a price he’s prepared to pay.

Mourinho signed a new deal at the beginning of the season, but after a torrid opening two months, his job is on the line.

Simeone Lined Up

If The Special One does lose his job, it’s believed the West London outfit will eye up Simeone from Atletico, where they’d have to pay another £15m to hire him.

Simeone also recently signed a long-term contract at his club, but he could be lured by the opportunity to manage in England.

Overall if Chelsea were to sack Mourinho and hire Simeone, it would cost the club £52.5m.
