Blues to turn to Crystal Palace defender

Chelsea could make a shock move for Crystal Palace centre-back Scott Dann should they once again fail to land John Stones from Everton.

The Blues are heavily expected to sign a central defender over the summer, with Kurt Zouma expected to be injured until the end of pre-season and John Terry leaving the club on a free transfer.

This leaves Chelsea with just Branislav Ivanovic and Gary Cahill as recognised centre-backs, unless they bring back Papy Djilobodji and/or Michael Hector, who are both out on loan.

With a centre-back high on the wishlist, several have been linked with moves to Stamford Bridge, with Stones and Marquinhos the top two targets from Everton and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.

Dann A Target

However, according to reports, Dann could be another possible target should they fail to land Stones yet again.

Chelsea had three formal bids turned down by Everton over the summer, and also two turned down by PSG, and if they suffer the same fate again this year, it’s reported they will turn to Dann instead.

Dann has been at Selhurst Park for a couple of years, following a £4million move from Blackburn Rovers, but should Chelsea want to sign him, it’s reported they’ll have to cough up around £20m.

The centre-back is Palace’s joint top scorer so far this season.
