Fernando Torres could be set to end his Chelsea hell on a permanent basis after German club Schalke declared their interest in the forward.

Torres, who cost Chelsea a then-British record £50M from Liverpool, has endured a miserable time at Stamford Bridge, and was shipped out on loan this summer to AC Milan in a bid to rejuvenate his career.

Now Bundesliga side Schalke have sounded out the possibility of a move.

Schalke boss Roberto Di Matteo has a strong working relationship with Torres, and could make a move for the Chelsea outcast, accoring to German sports paper Bild.

The pair helped Chelsea to an unlikely Champions Leage success, and Di Matteo is confident of linking up with the forward again.

Chelsea might not have many chances to recoup any significant amount on Torres, whose contract runs until 2016, and this could well be the last chance to do so.
