The Brazillian international, who scored the second goal of a 2-0 win for his country, has remained in his hometown rather than returning back to London due to the bereavement caused by his recent loss of his mother.
The 28-year-old took to instagram to reflect over the unfortunate happenings; he wrote a poem in his native Portugese in honour of his late mother.
Everyone who has experienced a loss of a close family member knows how hard it can be, but with the added aspect of the public microscope I can imagine it being twice as difficult.
On the contrary, there are also positives to being under the public eye during times of doubt. For example, Willian has received a surplus of messages from football fanatics all over the world. In particular, Chelsea football club has sent their regards to the winger:
“We are thinking of you Willian.”
Antonio Conte will have to opt for either Pedro or Victor Moses as a replacement for the unfortunate Samba Boy if he chooses to accept his request for absence.
As a football fan myself, I send my thoughts to Willian and his family.
