New Chelsea striker Diego Costa has faced a backlash from Spanish media after his abysmal performances at this Summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
The current World and European champions are already out of competition after losing 5-1 to Netherlands, and 2-0 to Chile last night, and the media back in Spain are putting all the blame on the former-Atletico Madrid man.
Spain had several years of success playing a false-striker, usually in the shape of Cesc Fabregas, but this was the first tournament they decided to drop that formation and use an actual striker after Costa had a superb campaign in La Liga.
However, two games and only one shot on target has seen him receive some tough feedback from the pundits back in Spain.
Despite being Brazilian-born, Costa turned his back on his homeland, and chose to play for Spain instead, but it will be a tournament to forget for the 25-year-old, as he has been labelled as ‘the experiment that failed’.
