Cristian Ansaldi, who is currently on loan at Athletico, is likely to return to Zenit Saint Petersburg when his loan deal expires.
Due to this, Simeone could sign Luis to give Guilherme Siqueira some competition for his place.
It is also thought that Chelsea are interested the French international, and the sale of Luis would free up some room in the squad and down the left-hand side to make room for Griezmann.
