Chelsea have reportedly jumped to the front of the queue to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus.

Talks between Reus and Dortmund over a new contract have stalled, and the German side are resigned to the fact that Reus could leave for as little as £20m when a release clause in his contract activates in the summer.

That has alerted a nmber of European clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Real Madrid. But Chelsea are hoping the offer of Andre Schurrle in a straight swap deal in January could tempt Dortmund to cash in. Dortmund find themselves in the relgation zone in the Bundesliga after a poor start to the season. and are reportedly keen in bringing in German star Schurrle in an attempt to reverse their fortunes.

And Blues boss Jose Mourinho is hoping that by using Schurrle as bait, he may be able to beat his rivals Louis van Gaal, Arsene Wenger and Carlo Ancelotti to Reus’ signature.

Schurrle himself may well be tempted to make the switch with his first team opportunities limited at Chelsea so far this season.
