Chelsea are still front-runners to capture highly-rated Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi.

Scouts have been regularly sent over to Italy to watch the progress of the Argentine hot-shot, with Icardi emerging as one of Europe’s best talents in the last 18 months.

It is understood that a £22 million pound deal has been talked up, with Chelsea and Inter Milan currently in lengthy negotiations about a possible deal in the summer.

However, Milan have offered Icardi a new £100,000 per-week deal to tempt the striker to stay in Italy, as the club intend to rebuild themselves into Europe’s elite once again.

Chelsea still remain confident that they can complete the transfer, even if the Argentine does extend his contract with Milan.
