Belgian defender Christian Kabasele is hoping to earn his first Belgium call up following an excellent start to the season.

The defender has been a key part of Watford’s resurgence this season as the Hornets have taken the Premier League by storm by winning their first four matches. However, their dream run came to an end as they were outclassed by Manchester United in the last match.

Kabasele’s strong display in the heart of the Watford backline has been impressive as he has formed a formidable partnership with Craig Cathcart. Despite his strong performance Belgium manager Roberto Martinez continued to overlook the player but the player wants to keep up the good work in a bid to get selected in the national team.

The 27 year old said, “I don’t think I can do anything else now.

“It is up to me to be patient and wait for the moment when the manager feels it’s the right time to call me back up.

“I just need to be good on the pitch and the final decision is his (Belgium boss Roberto Martinez). It is a question of patience. I need to continue like this and not give up.”

“Last year, you could have criticised me of not being at my best in the big games, but over the last five matches, we played Spurs and Manchester United, and I stepped up.”
