Former Villa and Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has given his view on Fabian Delph’s new contract, suggesting it has only been signed to ensure the Villans get a decent price for their midfield star.

Tottenham and Liverpool had reportedly been interested in signing the 25-year-old for a cut price this window, but the agreement of a new four-and-a-half year deal will have seen Delph’s asking price raised significantly.

Collymore tweeted, ““Contract probabilities. A, possible release clause if AVFC relegated. B, an agreed trigger figure should another club meet it. Let’s say £30m.”

Whilst clubs would be insane to pay £30m for Delph, a new deal will mean Villa will receive Delph’s true value should he still seek a move away from Villa Park.
