Roma striker Mattia Destro has admitted that he is ‘very pleased’ to be linked with a move to the Premier League.

The London duo of Chelsea and Arsenal are chasing the signture of the Italian, 23.

Destro arrived at Roma in 2012 from Siena, and has represented the Italian national side at every level from Under-16 upwards, and just missed out on a place in the World Cup squad this summer.

Chelsea are targeting Destro as a replacement for Didier Drogba, who could leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, while the Gunners are short of cover up front after losing Olivier Giroud to injury.

Destro has been linked with a move to England since the summer, but a bid failed to materialise.

Of the transfer talk, he said:

“They are wonderful rumours, I’m very pleased because it means that I’ve taken the right path [in my career],

“There are so many things that I can improve on. I must never stop and continue to learn new things.

“The Coach encourages me a lot, and I try to show my skills on the pitch, as well as the confidence he has in me.”
