Di Maria’s Premier League move to Manchester United only happened because French giants Monaco cashed out on an already agreed deal for the winger.

French publication Le Sport 10 claim that Monaco was all but set to move to France prior to the World Cup, only for money issues to end any transfer being complete.

Di Maria has made a flying start to life playing for United, but his initial preferred destination was with other big-money spenders Paris-Saint-Germain.

His agent Florentine Perez was actively seeking a move to France, but financial fairplay rules resulted in the Argentine moving to Old Trafford for £60 millon pounds.

The Red Devils are glad that they now took the gamble on their new number 7.
