Chelsea striker, Diego Costa, has revealed what made him snub a move to Liverpool back in 2013.

The Spaniard has been a huge success at Stamford Bridge since making his move from Atletico Madrid, and he has now revealed that he was in fact close to joining Liverpool a year earlier.

The 26-year-old cost Chelsea £32million from the Spanish champions, but he has already shown that he’s worth that with an abundance of goals this season, including one in the Capital One Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur.

However, he has revealed that Liverpool made a £21m offer for him in the Summer of 2013, but he rejected the move as he thought he would develop better in Spain.

He said: “I was close to leaving, Liverpool are a great team.

“But after fighting so hard and overcoming difficulties to get my place at Atletico, how could I leave?

“I thought it was very important to keep growing at the Colchoneros [Atletico Madrid], and play there for many years.”
