Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor has apologised on his official Twitter account after thousands of fans have complained about the picture of him and Benoit Assou-Ekotto (pictured above).

The Spurs left-back, who is currently on loan at Queens Park Rangers, tweeted a picture of himself and Adebayor posing with the striker holding up three fingers and Ekotto holding up two fingers, adding up to five, which is how many Spurs conceded during their humiliation at home against Liverpool.

As well as the picture, Ekotto wrote: ‘What a game tonight LOL’.

Many fans assumed that the picture of the two players was a dig at the club and vented their frustration at the picture saying that the two individuals were showing a lack of respect for the club, however, Adebayor has taken to Twitter tonight to reveal his innocence.

He wrote: “I apologise to all Spurs fans who thought from the Assou-Ekotto picture that we were making fun out of the defeat. That picture was taken BEFORE the game. I couldn’t have possibly known the score. I would NEVER DO THAT. That pose is how I pose in all my pictures. See some others.”

He then tweeted several picture of himself posing in the same manner.
