Tottenham’s new signing Christian Eriksen has revealed that German club Borussia Dortmund approached him during the summer with a view to join the German outfit.

The former Ajax star told a newspaper in his homeland that Dortmund had approached him to discuss a move to the Bundesliga but they never went through with a formal enquiry which meant the Denmark international moved to Tottenham for £11 million on the 30th August.

Speaking to the BT newspaper, Eriksen said: ‘Dortmund was interested, and they approached me. I guess that they have contacted all the candidates they had, and I was one of the many.”

‘They were interested, and there was a phone call from them. But it’s a long time ago and a lot has happened since.’

Dortmund were looking for a replacement for Mario Gotze who left the club for a move to German rivals Bayern Munich in a deal worth £32.5 million. Instead they went and signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan for £24.2 million.

BT has reported that PSG approached Eriksen at the end of the summer transfer window with a larger fee and much larger salary but the 21 year old had his heart set on joining the Premier League.

Eriksen is in line to make his debut for the North London club on Saturday at home to Norwich City.
