Michael Essien spent all of last season on loan at Real Madrid under new Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho making a total of 34 appearances in all competitions but has yet to feature for Chelsea this season.

Essien moved to Chelsea in 2005 from Lyon, the Ghanaian international has mad 163 appearances for Chelsea as well as 49 appearances in European competitions but will not feature in this seasons Champions League group stage.
