John Obi Mikel will not leave Chelsea

Mikel has quashed speculation that he will move this summer

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has revealed that he has no intention of leaving the club in this transfer window.

The Nigeria international has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Fenerbache and UAE side Al Ain among the clubs reportedly interested.

But the 28 year old is keen to fight for his place in the first team, with Jose Mourinho also keen for him to remain a Chelsea player.

When asked directly about his future at the domestic champions, Mikel said:

“I have two years left here. I am happy here and we will see what happens.

“I do want to stay, and the manager wants me to stay, so I don’t have any issues.”

Mikel was limited to mainly substitute appearances last season, with Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas, Mourinho‘s preferred central midfield partnership.

The Portuguese was appreciative though of the part played by the squad players, such as Mikel, in helping Chelsea claim back the Premier League title for the first time in five seasons.
