OFFICIAL: Lucas Torreira joins Atletico Madrid on loan

Atletico Madrid confirms the signing of Lucas Torreira from Arsenal on a season-long loan.

The 24-year old midfielder joined the Gunners from Sampdoria in 2018 for a fee of around £27m.

Since then the Uruguayan international made 89 appearances for the club scoring 4 goals and picking up one red card.

The midfielder has fallen out of favour under Mikel Arteta and has found himself behind Granit Xhaka, Dani Ceballos and Mohamed Elneny in the Arsenal pecking order this season.

He was a linked with a number of Serie A clubs this transfer window, namely Fiorentina and Torino but he decided to join Atletico Madrid to work with Diego Simeone.
