Reports in Italy claim Kostas Manolas is in talks with Roma about a new deal, amid interest from Chelsea.

The reigning Premier League champions had a £31m bid for Manolas turned down by the side from the Italian capital earlier this year, according to Il Tempo.

Now the Corriere dello Sport reckon the Greek defender, along with his agent, has opened negotiations with Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini.

It is understood that Chelsea were targeting Manolas as a long-term replacement for defensive stalwart John Terry.

Terry is seemingly on his way out of Stamford Bridge in the summer, after a decade at the West London club.

Roma are not keen on losing Manolas, like they did Mehdi Benatia and Marquinhos, who left for Bayern Munich and PSG.

The new deal could see Manolas remain with Roma until 2020.
