Leicester will demand £20 million for their first-choice goalkeeper

Everton could continue Leicester City’s player exodus with Ronald Koeman interested in bringing goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to Goodison Park.

The Foxes lost star midfielder N’Golo Kante to Chelsea on Saturday, for a fee of £30 million, while Riyad Mahrez has reportedly turned down a new £80,000-a-week deal to stay with the Premier League champions.

And now Koeman is seeking to reinforce his options between the sticks with Schmeichel high on his list, although, they may stumble at the £20 million asking price by Leicester.

The Denmark international was a vital part of the Foxes miraculous title success, and was vital in the second half of the season in helping the Foxes to sure up their, at times, leaky defence in the first half of the campaign.

Long-serving American goalkeeper Tim Howard, left Everton after a decade, while the search for a new first choice ‘keeper has proved difficult, despite already having signed Maarten Stekelenburg from Championship side Fulham, who spent last season on loan with Southampton.

Koeman has been linked with a move for fellow Dutchman, Tim Krul, who has been made available by Newcastle, following their relegation to the Championship.

But it is understood that Koeman sees Schmeichel as his first choice, although Leicester are reluctant to sell and hoping to offer the 29-year-old a new contract.

Schmeichel may be tempted by the new project going on at Everton, and could see it as one of the last chances he will get to earn a move to a bigger, more established, Premier League outfit.

The Foxes have already signed Ron-Robert Zieler from Bundesliga outfit Hannover, as back up to the Dane, in case he, too, leaves the King Power Stadium this summer.
