The Magpies want to strengthen following their relegation

According to Sky Sports News HQ, recently relegated Newcastle United are confident of capturing Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle and Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie.

Gayle is reportedly heading to St. James’ Park today to undergo his medical, after the two clubs agreed a fee of approximately £10 million.

However, whilst Gayle is swapping Palace of the Premier League for the Toon Army of the Championship, Andros Townsend is believed to be heading in the opposite direction, after the Eagles triggered the £13 million release clause in his Newcastle contract.

Townsend’s potential departure from the North-East side would leave a void on the wing for Rafa Benitez, who is allegedly close to replacing the England international with Bournemouth and Scotland wide-man Matt Ritchie.
