Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has expressed his views on why he does not feel Drinkwater will be useful to the club under him.

The Chelsea boss has introduced a three-man midfield system with the one at the base being a technically gifted player. Sarri feels Drinkwater is not cut out to play in that role (it is currently occupied by Cesc Fabregas and Jorginho). The manager feels Drinkwater is a terrific player but would be more suited to a two man midfield.

“Danny is in the list for the Premier League but out of the list for Europe. I think he’s a very good midfielder but he’s suitable for a midfield two because with a three he’s not a really central or suitable for centre right or centre left. For him, the problem is only my football. I don’t know, it depends on the club and it’s up to him I think.”

Drinkwater is currently on a £100,000 per week salary at Chelsea and the Blues hierarchy will definitely want to move on a midfielder who costs them so much but is redundant to their footballing purposes.

Let’s see however whether they do find a suitable club for the player to agree to leave such a heavy salary.
