Gennaro Gattuso is prepared to move on from Gonzalo Higuain’s departure to Chelsea and shift his focus to new signing from Genoa, Krzysztof Piatek.
Higuain ended his ill-fated loan spell at San Siro by reuniting with former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea this week.
The 31-year-old scored only 6 goals from 15 Serie A outings for the Rossoneri, returns which are quite meagre considering his past goalscoring record in the Italian top flight.
Milan have signed Krzysztof Piatek from Genoa for a reported fee of €35 million to fill in the void left by the Argentine talisman and Gattuso has backed him to hit the ground running.
Having scored 13 goals in 19 Serie A appearances this season, Milan will be hoping for their new signing to help them in their surge for a top-four finish and Gattuso spoke of the Polish international in glowing terms.
“Piatek is a man of few words,” revealed Gattuso. “He has lots of enthusiasm and was really surprised with how he was welcomed by his new team-mates and the coaching staff.
“I don’t want to talk about Higuain. He made his choice and he’s now in the past.
“We have signed a really determined player. We lose a top striker but we have a new one who can really help us, a very physical player who has an eye for goal.”
