Former-Chelsea defender Patrick van Aanholt is keen to prove himself in the Premier League after he completed his switch to Gus Poyet’s Sunderland.

The left-back is keen to prove his former employees wrong about his ability, after he was sent out on loan FIVE times during his Stamford Bridge stay, including a recent two year stay with Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem.

The 23-year-old was being watched by Feyenoord before he completed his move to The Black Cats, and he has admitted that the chance to play regularly in the Premier League was what made his decision.

“I decided I wanted to prove myself in the Premier League.

“I want to show what kind of player I am and what I am capable of doing. I’m very happy that Sunderland called me at the right moment.”

In five years at Chelsea, van Aanholt made just two appearances for the first-team after spending most of the time as Ashley Cole’s understudy, and even when Cole wasn’t playing, either Ryan Bertrand or Cesar Azpilicueta got called up ahead of the Dutchman.
